Salem is almost 400 years old, making it one of the oldest cities in the US. It has a vast and varied history. Its humble beginnings are as a fishing community, but it develops as a key metropolis and was the state capital for a brief period.
You will see sites that relate to the 1692 witchcraft trials and hear the compelling stories that shook the town to the core. There are also locations that have incredible importance to the American Revolution. The US may not be the same US without Salem.
And the seaport was the richest in America per capita from 1790 until the War of 1812. Ships traversed the oceans to bring back goods from all over the world. While the heydey ended in the early 1800s, the seaport continued to thrive until its end in the 1870s.
Salem is the home to inventors as well as famous political leaders and has been visited by celebrities who have shot many movies and TV shows in the city.
And you be regaled with a tale of the supernatural activity that plagues the city still. You'll get quite the overview of Salem in this 90 minute tour.
